The Film- and Medien Stiftung NRW has published the first results of its funding programme for games aimed at preventing disinformation and radicalisation. Three projects will receive a combined total of just over half of the budget available for 2025.

NRW has earmarked a total of €500,000 for the new funding programme for games aimed at preventing disinformation and radicalisation, which was announced in November 2024. The first call for funding was issued in February and the decisions from the first allocation meeting are now available.

A total of 277,000 euros will go to three projects. Trust Division from the Cologne-based studio Critical Rabbit will receive 100,000 euros in funding. Merkmal: Radikal! from Studio Zweisiedlerkrebs will receive 99,690 euros and Beans from the Good Evil will receive 77,000 euros in funding. These two studios are also based in Cologne.

"The state of North Rhine-Westphalia is supporting the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW (Media Foundation NRW) with an additional 500,000 euros this year to advance a key social issue: the fight against fake news and hate speech online. Serious games and gamification offer innovative and effective approaches that we as a society urgently need," explains Walid Nakschbandi. "A big thank you to all participants – the multitude of creative and cleverly thought-out ideas made the jury's decision anything but easy."
