Kalypso Media Moves Commandos: Origins to March 2025
Commandos: Origins will not be released this year. Kalypso Media and Claymore Game Studios have delayed the game until March 2025. The additional development time will allow more time to improve and optimise the game.
Kalypso Media and Claymore Game Studios are postponing the release of Commandos: Origins until March 2025. The additional development time will allow the team to tweak the game in a number of areas to provide a better tactical experience. At the same time, Claymore will be able to incorporate player feedback from the recently completed closed beta and demo.
The Commandos franchise has always been characterised by tactical precision and a multitude of different approaches, allowing players to complete missions in a variety of ways. The teams at Claymore Game Studios and Kalypso Media are determined to honour and continue this legacy. Thanks to the valuable feedback from our loyal community, we are now making the final tweaks to create an outstanding tactical gaming experience," said Jürgen Reusswig, Studio Director of Claymore Game Studios.
This additional development time will be spent on several key aspects. These include performance optimisations and improvements to the NPC AI, controls and UI/UX. In addition, the temporary voice-overs from the demo and closed beta will be replaced with professional recordings in English, French, German, Spanish and Chinese. Claymore Game Studios has published an overview of the updates in a developer blog. It explains the design decisions and adjustments in detail. Among other things, the developers confirm that non-lethal combat manoeuvres have been integrated and explain the modernised loot system.
Commandos: Origins is scheduled for release in March 2025 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass for console and PC at launch. It is the first new game in the Commandos franchise since Commandos: Strike Force in 2006. In July 2018, Kalypso Media acquired the brand rights to the series and subsequently released HD remasters of Commandos 2 and Commandos 3 for PC and consoles. It is also the first game from Claymore Game Studios, which was founded in Darmstadt in 2020. Development was funded with €1,532,519 from the German government's computer games funding programme.
