After the change in leadership at Microsoft, it's safe to say that the company will continue to focus on gaming and that there won't be any major changes to its strategy in the near future. The new CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Asha Sharma, revealed that 'Project Helix' is the codename for the next generation of Xbox consoles, and that she intends to talk about it with partners and studios at her first GDC.

She also wrote that Project Helix "will lead in performance" and enable the playing of Xbox and PC games. In August 2025, Moore's Law Is Dead speculated in a report that the next-generation APU (Magnus) would feature Zen 6 CPU cores and a RDNA 5-powered GPU, surpassing the performance targets of Sony's PlayStation 6. There have been unconfirmed rumours for months that the next Xbox console would use Windows as its operating system and that it would also include the ability to play PC games. It was rumoured that the new console would be a Windows 11-based hybrid device and would aim to bridge the gap between console and PC by supporting the native installation of third-party stores such as Steam and Epic Games. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed, but is only speculative. In October 2025, fromer Xbox President Sarah Bond emphasised (Mashable) that the upcoming 'next gen' console would offer a "very premium, very high-end, very curated experience".

Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma on X: "Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console. Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!"

AMD is once again the hardware partner for Project Helix, producing the system on a chip (SoC) for the upcoming Xbox console. According to AMD, development is progressing well in time for a 2027 launch.
