Nintendo hat den endgültigen Namen seiner Next-Generation-Konsole enthüllt: "Wii". Der ungewöhnliche Name, der wie das englische "we" klingt, soll den außergewöhnlichen Weg symbolisieren, den Nintendo mit dem Gerät eingeschlagen hat.

Nintendo hat mit der Enthüllung des endgültigen Namens seiner Next-Generation-Konsole nur wenige Wochen vor der E3 überrascht. Das bislang unter dem Arbeitstitel "Revolution" bekannte Gerät soll jetzt als "Wii" in den Verkauf gehen. "Wii wird ein Meilenstein in der Geschichte des Videospiels sein", sagt Dr. Bernd Fakesch, General Manager Nintendo Germany. "Der außergewöhnliche Name spiegelt ihre außergewöhnlichen Eigenschaften wider."

Laut Nintendo soll der Name bewusst an das englische "we" erinnern. Man könne ihn sich leicht merken, und er verwirre auch nicht durch Kürzel. Auf diese Weise soll die Trennwand zwischen Gamern und Nichtgamern eingerissen und das Videospielen revolutioniert werden.
