While the children's jury of the Goldener Spatz festival in Gera and Erfurt is deciding whether the nominated Rascal's Escape by the Good Evil will receive an award, the Cologne-based studio has also launched the title for iOS and Android – with an unusual approach to monetisation.

Rascal's Escaoe - Cheeky Badger's Journey, the full name of the title, will be released on 4 June on iOS and Android as a free demo version that neither contains advertising nor offers a subscription model. Instead, the entire content can be unlocked at the end of the demo or a one-off payment can be made. It is therefore premium marketing with a test-and-buy option, which is rather unusual in the mobile sector.

The PC and Nintendo Switch versions released in December will also receive updates at the same time as the mobile release.

But it's not just the release that makes this a very special week for the Cologne-based indie studio the Good Evil. The German Children's Media Festival Goldener Spatz (Golden Sparrow), which takes place in Gera and Erfurt, kicked off on Monday. Rascal's Escape is also nominated in the Interactive & Digital Storytelling competition. The award is special in that the winners are chosen by a children's jury and therefore the direct target group.
