Oeuf comes from increpare games, the one man studio of London-turned-Berlin resident Stephen Lavelle. Lavelle is best known for the puzzle game he made and named after himself: Stephen's Sausage Roll, probably one of the best-received puzzlers ever made.

Oeuf now is a 3D platformer with simple controls: Playing as an egg that falls from its nest, players can only roll and jump. Rolling, unsurprisingly, is quite hard when you are formed as an egg is, with different positioning of the egg being crucial to make a jump or controlled roll onto a bridge. This is the challenge of the game: In a game world that looks straight out of Minecraft, heights, obstacles and challenges are visually very clear, and players must maneuver their egg through courses from one checkpoint to another. The game saves at every checkpoint, and obstacle courses are never too long, although of course they become more challenging the farther players get into the game.

What makes Oeuf so special is the game feel: Not only do the blocky surroundings make it very clear what is reachable and how, but the Minecraft-style design together with constant rain sounds and a very meditative soundtrack (four hours of music are currently in the game, Lavelle says) make Oeuf a very chill, flow-like experience. Even missteps aren't that enraging anymore in these circumstances, especially since the movement of the egg are very deliberate: With proper skill, the egg is entirely controllable, no random physics are involved. Oeuf is a true skill platformer, and in its unique concept and with its fascinatingly relaxing atmosphere a lovely hidden gem. For team players, all levels can also be tackled in cooperative multiplayer. Additionally, Oeuf launches with Steam Workshop integration for near endless custom level possibilities from players.

A meditative but challenging platformer with an unusual concept, great controls and plenty of singleplayer and coop fun.
