Sony Drops Requirement for PlayStation Network Account on PC
Recent PC releases from Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation Publishing) have required a PlayStation Network account. For two titles already released and two upcoming titles, this requirement will become optional.
The recent PlayStation releases on PC required a PlayStation Network account, which was widely criticised by gamers, especially as the games could not be accessed in some regions where PSN is not available. In the wake of massive criticism, Sony Interactive Entertainment is now changing course and making the PlayStation Network optional. Instead, players who continue to use a PSN account will be incentivised with in-game bonuses.
"An account for PlayStation Network will become optional for these titles on PC. Players who still opt to sign into a PlayStation Network account will also enjoy added benefits like trophies and friend Management", Asad Qizilbash, SVP Head of Publishing, Studio Business Group said.
This change affects Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and God of War: Ragnarök, the latter of which is due to receive an update today. Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which launches today, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which comes out on 3 April, will also no longer require a PlayStation account.
Benefits for PC players who opt to sign in with an account for PlayStation Network: - "Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early unlock suits: the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit - God of War Ragnarok: Gain access to the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms (previously only accessible in a New Game+ run) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP) - The Last of Us Part II Remastered: +50 points to activate bonus features and unlock extras Jordan's Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as a skin for Ellie - Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Gain access to Nora Valiant Outfit"
