Originally, astragon Entertainment and astragon Development had planned to release Seafarer: The Ship Sim this summer, but the game will now be given a little more development time before its Early Access launch.

astragon Entertainment and astragon Development have announced the Early Access release date for their ship simulation game, Seafarer: The Ship Sim. It will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store from 7 October 2025. Seafarer will be publicly playable for the first time at gamescom 2025, at the astragon booth in Hall 6. Those unable to attend gamescom can still join the Seafarer: The Ship Sim showcase on 21 August at 19:00 CEST.

Seafarer: The Ship Sim is a ship simulation game in which players can captain their own ship. They will take on missions from different factions, such as transporting goods between ports, helping ships in distress or fighting fires on the high seas, as well as exploring the open sea, which is inspired by Northern European seascapes. Players will gradually take control of various vessels, from small tug boats to large freighters. The game is powered by Unreal Engine 5. Nvidia WaveWorks 2.0 is used for water and wave simulation.

The game was actually supposed to launch in the summer. The extra development time will be used to further polish its quality. astragon: "We know - we initially said Summer 2025, and we hate having to ask for a little more patience. But we want to be fully transparent: We've decided to take a few more weeks to polish core features and refine the overall gameplay experience. These extra weeks will help us ensure that every voyage feels rewarding from the very first step aboard."

The development of Seafarer: The Ship Sim has been funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) with €1,824,023. The funding period is from 1 June 2023 to October 2025. Independent Arts Software from Hamm has been part of astragon Entertainment since April 2023.
