The decision on this year's prototype funding has been made in Hamburg. A total of six games were selected and will receive between €30,000 and €80,000 in prototype funding.

The total amount that Gamecity Hamburg is providing as grants to support new game projects as part of its prototype funding programme is €372,000. This will be distributed among a total of six game projects, with no project receiving more than €80,000 in funding.

The decision on which titles will receive support is made by a jury, which this year consists of Nina Müller (VP Publishing & Development Services, Goodgame Studios), Jonas Hüsges (Publishing Director, Daedalic Entertainment), Valentina Birke (Director Indie Arena Booth / Super Crowd Entertainment), Michael Schade (CEO & Co-Founder ROCKFISH Games) and Dennis Schoubye (Head of Gamecity Hamburg).

"The high quality of the projects submitted to this funding round led to an intensive decision process within the awarding committee. The funded projects show a wide variety of genres, ideas, and teams. With the Prototype Funding, we are supporting established companies and up-and-coming start-ups in Hamburg as a games location," commented Dennis Schoubye, Head of Gamecity Hamburg and member of the awarding committee.

The following projects were funded this year:

  • NeverLight by Nightless Games - € 80,000
  • Pet Universe by Tivola Games - € 80,000
  • Space Station Manager by gameXcite - € 80,000
  • Unbreachable by Buckfish - € 70,000
  • Deep Fog Signals by Symmetry Break Studio - € 32,000
  • Cosmic Run by Zinktank Labs - € 30,000

Registration for the next funding round in Hamburg will take place in spring 2026. Hamburg was once the first location in Germany to offer financial support for games. However, the programme was subsequently discontinued and only reactivated in 2020 with a new concept. Since then, a total of 37 prototypes have received financial support in seven funding rounds – two in 2020 and only one per quarter since then.

In its support for the games industry, Hamburg is taking a different path from other major German games locations such as Berlin, Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia. Instead of project funding, Hamburg focuses its support on events and networking events, pitchings and business trips.
