PlayStation 5 Pro Now Available

PlayStation 5 Pro is available today. The iterative, in-generation upgrade features enhanced graphics performance, improved ray tracing and AI upscaling with PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). PS5 Pro enhancements are available for over 50 games.

PlayStation 5 Pro is available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com for €799.99. It comes with a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro's Playroom pre-installed. The PS5 Pro is available as a discless console only, with the option to purchase the currently available PS5 disc drive separately. The vertical stand is also available separately.

With three-quarters of gamers preferring performance mode (60fps) to fidelity mode (higher resolution and more detail; typically 30fps), Mark Cerny, Lead Architect of the PlayStation 5 console, says the new console's performance has been optimised in three areas. An enlarged GPU (67% more Compute Units) is said to offer 45% faster rendering, and the improved RT array is said to deliver two to three times faster ray tracing - both compared to the PlayStation 5. Then there's PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), an AI-powered upscaling system that, like Nvidia's DLSS. In the presentation, Mark Cerny said that the PlayStation 5 Pro could deliver a fidelity experience at 60fps and that some games would run twice as fast. In addition, PS5 Pro Game Boost can be used on more than 8,500 backwards compatible PS4 games. Enhanced Image Quality is also available for PS4 games to improve the display of selected PS4 games.

Microsoft has yet to announce a more powerful version of the Xbox Series X, but has said it will continue to release Xbox hardware. Nintendo will officially announce the Switch's successor at the end of March 2025.
