Ubisoft Signs Morbid Metal from Cologne-based Screen Juice
Morbid Metal, a hack-and-slash action roguelite from Cologne-based Screen Juice, will be published by Ubisoft. The game will be released in Early Access on Steam in summer 2025.
Ubisoft will publish Morbid Metal by independent developer Screen Juice from Cologne. Starting in 2017, Felix Schade spent years developing the game on his own before founding Screen Juice in 2023. A key moment in the development journey came when Schade shared early gameplay footage online, asking for feedback. The community embraced it quickly, creating a momentum that helped shape the game's development. Since then, Schade has expanded the company while continuing to lead as game director.
"If it wasn't for the initial response from the gaming community, I probably would have quit developing Morbid Metal," said Schade, founder and game director at Screen Juice. "This game has come a long way and I'm excited to launch in early access this summer to get more feedback from the community that rallied behind this project and helped re-ignite my passion."
"Felix's unique vision and collaboration with the community drew us in right away," said Anne Blondel Jouin, VP, Open Innovation Accelerator at Ubisoft. We're excited to bring this game to worldwide audiences this summer on PC."
Morbid Metal lets players create a roster of up to three characters, each with their own unique set of moves, and shapeshift into any of them at will. It will be released this summer in Early Access on Steam.
The announcement was made at the Triple-I Initiative Showcase, and the publisher also released a cinematic trailer that gives a glimpse into the backstory of Heroes of Might & Magic Olden Era. The strategy game is expected to launch in Early Access in the summer of 2025. It is being developed by Unfrozen. By 2024, the studio will have grown to a team of 50, with offices in Limassol, Cyprus; Tarragona, Spain; Guildford, England; Belgrade, Serbia; and Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
