Geoff Keighley has officially confirmed Summer Game Fest 2025. Although the opening show of this year's series of events set a new record for the number of viewers, the feedback from the audience was rather negative.

After Summer Game Fest is before Summer Game Fest. The SGF organisers have officially confirmed the next edition of the event for June 2025, once again in Los Angeles. "We're thrilled to announce that SummerGameFest will return to Los Angeles in June 2025, including Play Days from iam8bit and a livestreamed showcase event that fans can attend. Together with the industry, we will continue to build what's next," Geoff Keighley wrote on X. No further details were given at this time, with gamescom Opening Night Live (20 August) and The Game Awards (12 December) still to come.

The opening show of the event series, hosted by Geoff Keighley, reached almost 7.3 million views on YouTube in five days this year - just on YouTube, not including co-streams or reactions. This is significantly more than in previous years. In 2023 there were 3.5 million views, in 2022 almost 1.6 million views and in 2021 1.5 million views since it first aired.

Despite Geoff Keighley's attempts to lower expectations by promising fewer big world premieres and a focus on already announced games, user feedback on the inaugural show was rather negative. In a survey of over 250,000 people on X, 40.3 per cent of respondents gave the show the lowest possible grade (D or Below), while 26.7 per cent would give it a C. In contrast, the Xbox Games Showcase received a much better grade, with 65.6 per cent of respondents giving it an A. However, the grading options were rather indiscriminate, as the production quality and content of the show could not be rated separately.
