Rockstar Games Acquires Video Games Deluxe
After working together on several re-releases and upgrades of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, Rockstar Games has announced the acquisition of Video Games Deluxe of Australia. The purchase price has not been disclosed.
Rockstar Games has acquired Sydney-based development studio Video Games Deluxe, which will become Rockstar Australia. "After working together closely over many years, we are excited to have Video Games Deluxe join the team as Rockstar Australia," said Rockstar Games Head of Publishing, Jennifer Kolbe.
Video Games Deluxe has a long history of working with Rockstar Games, including the 2017 re-releases of L.A. Noire, L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, and most recently the upgrades for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition. Video Games Deluxe was founded in 2013 by Brendan McNamara, the founder and former creative director of Team Bondi (L.A. Noire).
"It's been an honor to work closely with Rockstar Games this past decade," said Brendan McNamara. "We are thrilled to be a part of Rockstar Games and to continue our efforts to make the best games possible."
Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto VI in fall 2025, according to Strauss Zelnick, CEO of parent company Take-Two Interactive. To date, the Grand Theft Auto series has sold more than 440 million units worldwide.
