Seafarer: The Ship Sim is a new IP from astragon Entertainment and in-house development studio Independent Arts Software. The game, which has received €1.8 million in funding from the BMWK, is scheduled for release in summer 2025.

Independent Arts Software and astragon Entertainment have announced a new IP. Seafarer: The Ship Sim is a ship simulation game in which players can captain their own ship. They will take on missions from different factions, such as transporting goods between ports, helping ships in distress or fighting fires on the high seas, as well as exploring the open sea, which is inspired by Northern European seascapes. Players will gradually take control of various vessels, from small tug boats to large freighters. The game is powered by Unreal Engine 5. Nvidia WaveWorks 2.0 is used for water and wave simulation.

"Checking machinery, operating cranes and using water cannons - there is always something to do on your own ship," the publisher said in the announcement. "The sandbox gameplay with dynamic weather, realistic day/night changes and the character editor ensure a constantly individualized gaming experience." In addition to a story mode, there will also be a quick play mode.

The development of Seafarer: The Ship Sim has been funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) with €1,824,023. The funding period is from 1 June 2023 to October 2025. Independent Arts Software from Hamm has been part of astragon Entertainment since April 2023.
