Correcting their expectations down by around 20 per cent for the rest of the fiscal year, Sega has suffered losses in the gaming department since 2023, not least because of the sales of Amplitude and Relic. The Pachinko gambling business however manages to stabilise the company's half year finances.

The Sega Sammy Group has released the half year results of the company for the six months that ended 30 September 2024. The company has suffered losses in several categories over the same timespan of 2023: While sales remained relatively stable with 211,663 million yen (about 1.29 billion euros) in contrast to 221,620 million yen (about 1.35 billion euros) in the six months before 30 September 2023 (a total loss of only 4,5 per cent), Sega’s operating income is down to 32,816 million yen (about 199.7 million euros) in contrast to 40,058 million yen (about 248.8 million euros) in 2023, a decline of 18.1 per cent. Ordinary income declined 21.4 per cent year over year, from 42,086 million yen (about 256.1 million euros) in 2023 to 33,095 million yen (about 201.4 million euros) in 2024.

The company has thus corrected the forecast for the current financial year of 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 down, to 45,000 million yen (about 273.9 million euros)  in operating income and 48,000 million yen (about 292.1 million euros) in ordinary income, a correction of 22.2 and 19.7 per cent respectively.

Sega gives the Pachinko business in Japan as its most successful, stabilising factor in the current company strategy.

Sega also recorded an extraordinary loss of approximately 5.9 billion yen (about 35.9 million euros) in the second quarter for the fiscal year due to the sale of overseas development studio, Amplitude Studios through a management buyout. Part of this the company will seek to write off on European taxes.

All half year numbers can be found in the investor’s report.
