The upcoming release of Hollow Knight: Silksong has prompted Toukana Interactive to delay the Early Access launch of Star Birds by one week. Several other studios are doing the same.

At gamescom 2025, 4 September was announced as the Early Access release date for Star Birds. However, this date has now been moved back by one week to 10 September. The main reason for this postponement is another indie game: Hollow Knight: Silksong, which has been in development for a long time and is currently number 1 on the Steam Wishlist, is also being released on 4 September 2025.

But Star Birds isn't the only game that has been 'silksonged'. Other games are also avoiding the release window. These include CloverPit by Panik Arcade and Future Friends Games (from 3 to 26 September), Demonschool by Necrosoft Games and Ysbryd Games (from 3 September to 11 November), Baby Steps by Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, Bennett Foddy and Devolver Digital (from 8 to 23 September), Little Witch in the Woods by Sunny Side Up (from 4 to 15 September) and Faeland by Talegames (with no new launch date). On the other hand, developer Splitside Games and publisher Daedalic Entertainment are sticking to 4 September as the release date for Fling to the Finish. They even state in the press release that they know exactly what will be released on that date.

Toukana's game had already attracted a lot of attention by the summer. A demo was released in June, attracting over 130,000 players and receiving 95% positive reviews on Steam, which catapulted the game into the top 100 most wishlisted games.

Toukana Interactive: "Compared to the demo, Early Access goes beyond the initial tutorial levels and steps up the complexity. At launch, you’ll be able to play more levels, build more and complex buildings, energy networks and explore many more asteroids. The Early Access release version also adds a second Star System with a bunch of new levels and even more cutscenes. In the new star system things get cold and frosty, so your birds will have to buckle up!"

Star Birds is a relaxing asteroid base-building and resource management game in which you help your population of spacefaring birds to prosper and thrive. It is developed by Toukana Interactive, the creators of Dorfromantik, and the animation studio kurzgesagt - in a nutshell, both from Germany.
