Slay the Spire 2 from Mega Crit Games was released on PC via Early Access on 5 March 2026, achieving the strongest launch of the year so far on Steam in terms of concurrent users. Currently, there are over 427,900 concurrent users online, and this figure is rising. Priced at €22.99, the game has easily beaten its predecessor, whose concurrent user peak stood at 57,025 in December 2025. This puts Slay the Spire 2 ahead of the best Steam launches of 2026, such as Resident Evil Requiem (344,214), Mewgenics (115,428), Marathon (88,337) and Nioh 3 (88,045).

Slay the Spire 2 is a roguelike deck-building game. Compared to the previous game, it features new content in the form of characters, cards, relics, potions, enemies, events, and new mechanics, such as enchantments, afflictions, ancients, and alternate acts. A new online co-op multiplayer mode has also been added, supporting up to four players, with multiplayer-specific cards and team synergies (only Steam Friends, no matchmaking). The developers estimate that the game will be in Early Access for between one and two years.

Mega Crit is a remote, independent game studio based in Seattle. It was founded by Anthony Giovannetti and Casey Yano. The studio's first game, Slay the Spire, was released on PC via Early Access at the end of 2017. Version 1.0 was released in January 2019, followed by versions for consoles and mobile devices. Mega Crit's core team now consists of ten people, plus additional contributors. While the first part was based on Unity, the developers switched to Godot for the second — partly due to the controversial and now cancelled change in Unity's pricing policy. Slay the Spire 2 has been in development since May 2021.
