Sony will Medienberichten zufolge tragbares Breitband-Fernsehen in Europa bereits im Frühling dieses Jahres anbieten. "LocationFree TV" soll u.a. Bewegtbilder aufs Handydisplay bringen.

Die Mediastreaming-Technologie "LocationFree TV" von Sony bringt in Japan und den USA Videos und Fernsehsendungen auf mobile Endgeräte wie PlayStation Portable oder tragbare Fernseher mit Wireless-LAN. Im Frühjahr 2006 soll der Service Medienberichten zufolge auch in Europa angeboten werden, allerdings erweitert um die Empfangsmöglichkeit auf GSM-Telefonen. Auch in Japan und den USA sei eine Ausweitung auf des Dienstes auf Mobiltelefone möglich, hieß es. Von Sony wurden die Gerüchte offiziell nicht bestätigt.

Ziel der "LocationFree"-Technologie ist die Konvergenz von Telekommunikation, Fernsehen und Breitbandinternet voranzutreiben.
