The demise of Bluepoint is somewhat tragic. The Austin, Texas-based studio had already made a name for itself as a PlayStation studio before its acquisition by Sony Interactive Entertainment in the fall of 2021 (in German), having developed remakes of Demon's Souls and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection for Sony, among other titles.
It was all the more surprising that Bluepoint was no longer working on further remakes, but on a live service game, the development of which was discontinued in January along with another project. As with the demise of Bluepoint, the discontinuation of the project was also reported by Bloomberg at the time.
There has been no official press release regarding Bluepoint's closure. However, US media outlets report that they have received a lengthy statement from Herman Hulst, the global studio head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, in which he cites reasons for the closure. Hulst mentions the challenging market environment, rising development costs, slower growth in the industry, and changes in gamer behavior.
