Are you ready, kids? Vienna game studio Purple Lamp are returning for their third Spongebob SquarePants outing. After their successful remake of Spongebob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom in 2020 and the original sequel The Cosmic Shake in 2023 based on the engine and game world of the Rehydrated remake, the studio is returning to Bikini Bottom again. Their last work was another Remake, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed in 2024, showing how the Viennese combine remaking and remixing expertise with talent to make new game worlds as well.

Titans of the Tide (translated as Giganten der Gezeiten in GSA) is clearly still a true sequel to the Spongebob 3D platformers that Battle for Bikini Bottom defined. This time, Spongebob and starfish companion Patrick can be exchanged at will, using both sea folk’s skill in conjunction for platforming challenges. Patrick even get’s a few new skills like burrowing, making the former slow powerhouse more versatile. Theme-wise, the game rests a bit strongly on the laurels of the early TV series. The content of all marketing materials references iconic moments from the first seasons, like Patrick’s meme-face or the hibernating squirrel Sandy as one of the bosses. With one of the main antagonists, the Flying Dutchman, a well-loved character gets some ingame attention at least.

Titans of the Tide won’t reinvent the wheel, but fans and kids will get
familiar platforming quality.

Spongebob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide will release on 18 November 2025.

Conclusion

A bit set in early TV series cameos, but a charming platformer nonetheless.

Unique Selling Points

  • Refined platforming skills
  • Beloved TV & game franchise
  • A big dose of humour
