2025 will be a big year for strategy games specialist Slitherine. That's because next year will see the release of RuneQuest: Warlords, which was announced yesterday, and Broken Arrow, which is likely to be their biggest release to date.

Slitherine, a UK and Italy-based publisher of strategy games, has showcased its games line-up for 2025 at the "Slitherine Next" event. The publisher announced the fantasy game RuneQuest: Warlords, a new free mode for the best-selling RTS Starship Troopers: Terran Command, the release month for Broken Arrow, and three new DLCs for previously released games. "Slitherine Next demonstrates each year how committed Slitherine is to supporting and keeping alive the major successes published in recent years, such as Starship Troopers: Terran Command and Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector, while also creating new and exciting worlds and franchises like RuneQuest: Warlords, never resting on its laurels." said Marco Alessandro Minoli, Director of Publishing at Slitherine.

RuneQuest: Warlords, developed by Volmi - a Virtuos Studio in Kyiv, is the first-ever strategy video game set in the fantasy world of Chaosium Inc. "In this battle-scale turn-based game, players take on the role of a warlord fighting for their tribe's survival against the forces of Chaos. While it's not a full RPG, this strategy PC title deeply reflects the tabletop game's legacy, renowned for its realistic combat mechanics and the incredibly flexible iconic D100 system," the publisher said. The game will be released on PC in 2025. "We're incredibly excited to develop RuneQuest: Warlords with Volmi and Chaosium. We're confident that the millions of RuneQuest tabletop fans will find in Warlords a natural evolution into PC strategy gaming. At the same time, countless strategy enthusiasts will discover the deeply nuanced system of RuneQuest through our video game," said Giulia Sellitto, Marketing Manager at Slitherine.

The company's biggest release to date is expected to be Broken Arrow in June 2025. The recent Multiplayer Open Beta attracted over half a million players and pushed the game into the top 50 most wishlisted games on Steam. "The game's popularity extended beyond gameplay, with over 340,000 hours watched and nearly 7,000 hours streamed, proving its appeal to a vast and dedicated fanbase. With its depth and mechanics, Broken Arrow is already delivering an experience that resonates with strategy enthusiasts at every level," said Slitherine. Broken Arrow is a large-scale, real-time tactics game of modern warfare, featuring more than 300 realistic military units and technologies and deep unit customisation tools. It is being developed by Steel Balalaika.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command, released in 2022 and one of the most successful RTS games of the last 24 months, will get a free expansion early next year. Slitherine and developer The Artistocrats have revealed Territory Mode, which introduces new maps with unique layouts, randomised starting bases and a new type of resource (Territory Points). In addition: The new Astra Militarum DLC for Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector has been released. The eighth DLC adds sixteen units available to defend and fight for the Emperor. Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector is being developed in-house by Slitherine since spring 2024, prior to that it was developed by Black Lab Games. A narrative campaign and a new game mode will follow in early 2025. Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance saw the release of the first DLC, We Are Legion, a new single-player campaign that gives players the chance to take control of the Legion with the sole aim of wiping out the human resistance. Last but not least, the Ultima Founding DLC has been released for Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War, which is being developed by Proxy Studios from Germany.

The Slitherine Group is a developer and publisher of digital strategy and wargames. It has published hundreds of games under the Slitherine and Matrix Games brands. Slitherine also works with major licensing partners such as NBC Universal, Games Workshop, Sony Pictures, BBC, Osprey and many others.
