The first of three Subotron Game Jams planned to date has already taken place as part of the Global Game Jam from 26 to 29 January at HTL Spengergasse. A Game Jam is planned for 20 February at FH Technikum Wien, and another will be held on 5 and 6 March at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Further jams are to follow.

The Subotron Game Jams are part of an extraordinary partnership between the Viennese association Subotron, which also organises the FROG conference, the New York-based organisation Games for Change and the Belvedere. The basis for this is the annual Student Challenge organised by Games for Change. This is a global programme that encourages young developers to create games inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The rewards include visibility and prize money. Games For Change also collaborates with Global Game Jam for this programme.

However, the collaboration in Austria goes even further, especially because the Belvedere, a renowned museum, is on board. It has realised its first successful projects in the gaming sector in recent years and clearly wants to build on this. The games developed as part of the partnership will not only be released in September, but will also be playable at Belvedere 21 as part of an exhibition in November 2026. The event will conclude with the presentation of the ‘Austrian Impact Game Idea 2026’ award.
