Switch 2 Sales Are so Strong That Nintendo Is Raising Its Forecast
Nintendo has sold over ten million Switch 2 consoles in just four months. Consequently, the company has raised its full-year forecast from 15 to 19 million. Software sales are also "strong".
In the first half of the 2025 fiscal year (April to September), Nintendo's net sales increased by 110.1% year-on-year to 1,099.5 billion Yen (~€6.16 billion). Operating profit increased by 19.5% to 145.1 billion Yen (~€0.8 billion), ordinary profit by 60.5% to 236.0 billion yen (~€1.32 billion) and profit attributable to owners of the parent company by 83.1% to 198.9 billion Yen (~€1.1 billion). The proportion of sales outside Japan was 79.5%. The effect of changes in foreign exchange rates on net sales was -24.1 billion Yen (~€135 million). Of the net sales, 1,066.1 billion yen (~€ 5.97 billion) were generated by the "dedicated video game platform" business and 33.3 billion yen (~€187 million) by the IP-related business (-12.4%), mainly due to the decrease in revenue related to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
In the first and second quarters of FY26, a total of 10.36 million Switch 2 consoles were sold, with 5.82 million sold in the first quarter and 4.54 million in the second. This equates to just under four months of sales, given that the console was released on 5 June. This is the best ever console launch, surpassing the original Switch (4.7 million), PS4 (7.5 million) and PS5 (7.8 million) in their first two quarters on sale. Additionally, Nintendo Switch hardware sales totalled 1.89 million units (Q1: 0.98 million; Q2: 0.91 million), which is just under 60 per cent less than in the same period last year. This brings the Switch's total sales to 154.01 million, meaning it has likely already surpassed the Nintendo DS's sales of 154.02 million.
