SXSW is coming to London in 2025 The international industry gathering SXSW is planning a London edition for next year. After the cancelled plans for Berlin, the festival is now making its way to Europe after all.
The South by Southwest festival is held annually in Austin, Texas, USA. The organisers have now announced that an edition will take place in London in June 2025. It will be the first time the creative, cultural and technological festival has been held in Europe. The current plan is for a variety of galleries, clubs and other venues to host the event over the course of a week.
A European edition of the festival was originally planned for 2023, but the Berlin government cancelled its plans. In addition to 3.5 million euros in funding, Springer Verlag and Penske Media, SXSW's majority shareholders, were also on board. At the time, the consortium of organisers was said to have failed to keep its promises. MusikWoche reported.
SXSW London builds on Austin's extraordinary legacy and aims to present an event that underscores why SXSW is the premier destination for professionals and creatives looking for meaningful connections, unexpected experiences and ideas that can help shape our world,' said Randel Bryan, who serves as managing director of SXSW London.
"We are thrilled to bring the SXSW experience to London," said Jann Baskett, Co-President and Chief Brand Operator, SXSW. Following the success of SXSW Sydney, this is an incredible new opportunity to showcase the elements that make SXSW unique in one of Europe's most vibrant cities. We look forward to forging deeper connections with our overseas community and taking the conversations that start in Austin all the way to London.
