Berlin-based trading card market leader Cardmarket has announced deeper integration with Magic: The Gathering search engine Scryfall through a contractual agreement. The contract is based on recent database improvements and serves as a test run for similar cooperations.

Europe’s biggest trading card game online marketplace Cardmarket, based in Berlin, has announced a cooperative partnership with Scryfall, one of the most important search engines for Magic: The Gathering (MTG). Going forward, the search engine will feature a button leading directly to the respective MTG card offer on Cardmarket.

The contractual agreement between both sites is based on ongoing cooperation in the past sine 2017. Cardmarket also plans on seeking similar cooperations other relevant MTG sites in the future, with the Scryfall cooperation being used as a test run for the connection of the database with similar services.

Cardmarket is the biggest card game market place in Europe and one of the main ways for players and traders to buy and sell individual cards as well as sealed products. Its high number of traders and offers is its biggest strength, but together with the evergrowing catalogue of products and price fluctuations due to changes in collectors value and playability, selling on marketplaces like these takes a bit of an effort if traders want to react to price changes. Being aware of these issues, Cardmarket has takent steps to improve their UI and infrastructure in the recent past, introducing unique product identifiers for example. The announced cooperation follows on these improvements, being possible through the groundwork laid by them and in turn offering another comfort function for users of Cardmarket by way of Scryfall.

Corey Csuhta, owner and lead engineer of Scryfall, is happy with the development: "The new contract will let me justify more time making sure our systems are interoperable and we have more of your data available to everyone. Scryfall started as a side project for me when I used to work a nine-to-five job at web development agencies. I didn't ever really expect that it would grow enough to be a full gig, but I'm proud to say that Scryfall allows me to work full time on it."
