Black Myth: Wukong Wins Three Steam Awards, Swiss Studio Also Honoured
The Steam Awards were presented for the ninth time at the turn of the year. Black Myth: Wukong won the most awards in this community-driven voting. Among the other winners was a studio from Switzerland.
The Steam community has spoken! Black Myth: Wukong, developed and published by Game Science, was the big winner at the 2024 Steam Awards. The Chinese studio won the "Game of the Year Award", the "Best Game You Suck At Award" (for challenging games) and the "Outstanding Story-Rich Game Award". These awards are voted on entirely by the Steam community. Initially, any non-limited Steam account could nominate one game per category, regardless of whether the user had played or owned the game. So it is not astounding that Black Myth: Wukong, the most played single player game in Steam history, has won so many awards. The game has sold approximately 25 million units across all platforms and generated over $1.1 billion in revenue, according to Niko Partners. The majority of its players are from China. At launch in August 2024, Black Mythos: Wukong was played by more than 2.4 million concurrent users on Steam alone.
Sony Interactive Entertainment took home two awards: the multiplayer award called "Better With Friends" for Helldivers 2 and the "Best Game on Steam Deck Award" for God of War Ragnarök. One award went to a GSA studio. Swiss-based Giants Software won the "Sit Back and Relax Award" for Farming Simulator 25, which launched on 12 November and sold over two million copies in its first week. Valve Software described this category as follows: "This game is the antidote to a busy day. It's smooth, it's relaxing, it lets your worries melt away. This game is your moment of zen."
All physical Steam Awards trophies will be delivered to the developer's offices. Virtual trophies will be displayed on the game's store page.
