Yager Pays Tribute to Its Shut-Down Shooter in Fortnite
Berlin-based Yager is launching its own Fortnite island, intended as a tribute to ‘The Cycle: Frontier’. However, a comeback of the now-discontinued shooter does not seem entirely out of the question.
A year ago, the Berlin-based developer Yager Development shut down the online shooter The Cycle: Frontier after the number of users apparently plummeted due to too many cheaters. Now there is at least a kind of reunion with the gameplay and some elements from the game. To do this, Yager used the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) to create its own island in the Fortnite universe. The Cycle: Prospect Island is supposed to capture the essence of the original game.
However, Yager said that Prospect Island is a tribute, not a full-fledged replacement. "While Yager is currently working on various co-development projects and new ventures, we wanted to pay tribute to The Cycle: Frontier and keep its spirit alive," said a spokesperson for the studio. "This Fortnite island is our way of honouring the game that many players and all of us at Yager appreciate so much." Many elements from the original game have been incorporated into Fortnite Island, which can be accessed using the code 8495-9375-7199. Yager presents the gameplay in a YouTube video.
But even though the newly released Fortnite Island is no replacement for The Cycle: Frontier, a comeback of the game in some form at least does not seem completely out of the question. In the announcement of The Cycle Prospect Island, Yager writes: "The company recognises the complexities of game development and publishing and is addressing fan requests for a return of the original game."
And the spokesperson comments: "We are deeply touched by the messages from players who miss the game and want it back. While we can't make any promises about the future of The Cycle: Frontier, we want our community to know that we see and appreciate their passion."
