The flood of announcements at The Game Awards 2025 included new Star Wars, Tomb Raider and Dungeons & Dragons games. Divinity, Total War: Warhammer 40,000, Control Resonant and Ace Combat 8 were also unveiled, along with many more titles.
The Game Awards 2025 saw the announcement of Divinity by Larian Studios. This new role-playing game, developed by the team behind Baldur's Gate 3, promises “unprecedented scope and depth”. It is Larian Studios' most ambitious project yet. While Divinity is a new game, no prior knowledge of previous Larian titles is required. Those who have played Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 will appreciate the continuity and depth. Swen Vincke, the founder and game director of Larian Studios, says, "Despite the series' long history, this is our first game to bear the title 'Divinity'. We want to bring everything we've created together in one place. This is the beginning of something with greater scope, depth and familiarity than anything we've created before. We've been working towards this moment ever since we took our destiny into our own hands. This is the Divinity we've always wanted to create, and you're going to have a lot of fun with it."
In cooperation with Lucasfilm Games, Arcanaut Studios has announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG for PC and consoles. The game will be developed by a new studio founded by Casey Hudson, director of the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy. "When we developed the original KOTOR, we wanted to create a definitive Star Wars experience - crafting an adventure that consisted of all the things we dreamed of doing as Star Wars fans," Hudson says. "Now, 25 years after we started work on that game, our aspirations are equally ambitious. Fate of the Old Republic represents an opportunity to explore a contemporary vision of a definitive Star Wars experience, using state-of-the-art technology and game design, and an all-new story crafted specifically to deliver on the combination of player agency and immersion in Star Wars that was at the heart of KOTOR." However, it was not the only Star Wars game announced. Publisher Secret Mode and developer Fuse Games, a studio led by former Criterion Games general manager Matt Webster, are set to release Star Wars: Galactic Racer for the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2026. "For us, Star Wars has always represented the power of wonder – and racing is one of its most thrilling expressions," said Matt Webster, CEO at Fuse Games. "With Star Wars: Galactic Racer, we wanted to reinvent what a racing game can be: adventurous, spectacular and exhilarating. We want every race to feel alive with dynamic risk-reward choices, and every victory to feel incredible."
Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics have announced two new games in the Tomb Raider franchise. Tomb Raider: Catalyst (2027) is the latest instalment in the series, while Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (2026) is a reimagining of Lara's original debut. Both Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will feature actress Alix Wilton Regan as Lara Croft. Tomb Raider: Catalyst has been in development at Crystal Dynamics since the partnership with Amazon Game Studios was announced in 2022. In this game, Lara Croft embarks on an adventure through northern India. Based on Unreal Engine 5, the game offers the largest Tomb Raider world yet for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is being developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog using Unreal Engine 5. It promises a blend of modern game design and new surprises that capture the spirit and atmosphere of the original. "Tomb Raider stands among gaming's most beloved and enduring franchises, and we’re thrilled to partner with Crystal Dynamics to bring two distinct Lara Croft adventures to players worldwide," said Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Game Studios. Remedy Entertainment has unveiled Control Resonant, the sequel to Control. Players will explore a warped Manhattan on the brink of paranormal annihilation in this thrilling action-adventure RPG. The protagonist is Dylan Faden, the brother of Jesse Faden (the protagonist from Control), as he fights for his humanity and survival against a reality-bending cosmic threat. Control Resonant is being published by Remedy Entertainment. Annapurna Pictures is co-financing and co-producing the game as part of a strategic partnership with Remedy Entertainment. Control Resonant is scheduled for release in 2026 on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. "Control Resonant pushes our paranatural action RPG series into an expansive, reality-warping playground of choice, power, and consequence," said Mikael Kasurinen, Creative Director of Control Resonant. "You don't have to know the first game to jump into the sequel, we've made this one easy to pick up and hard to put down. To mark the end of Total War's 25th Anniversary Celebrations, Sega and The Creative Assembly have announced Total War: Warhammer 40,000. It will release for PC but will also be the franchise's debut on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. For the first time, Total War steps into the far future. It features Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks, and Aeldari, each offering a distinct playstyle across campaign and battle. The game is a galactic sandbox. Players can capturing planets, upgrading fleets, managing their war economy, conquer worlds, bombard enemies from orbit, and command real-time battles over planetary strongholds. Game Director, Attila Mohacsi: "Warhammer 40,000 is a science-fantasy setting without equal. Its galactic scale, iconic factions, and brutal battles have contributed to a universe that gels perfectly with Total War's DNA. The band Evanescence gave a special live performance of their song Afterlife from the Netflix series Devil May Cry and announced that the second season will premiere on 12 May 2026. Finally, the cast of Capcom and Legendary Entertainment's upcoming Street Fighter film took to the stage to present an award and offer a sneak preview of the film. The cast included Andrew Koji (Ryu), Noah Centineo (Ken), Callina Liang (Chun-Li), Cody Rhodes (Guile) and Jason Momoa (Blanka).
Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred, the final showdown with Mephisto. This second expansion to Diablo IV is set to launch on 28 April 2026. It will feature a story campaign, two new character classes and a range of gameplay enhancements, including a revised skill tree, loot filters for targeted farming, fishing, the return of the Horadric Cube and a new talisman system that grants set bonuses to character builds. It will also unveil the oldest and most historic region of Sanctuary: Skovos. Players who pre-order the expansion will be able to play the new Paladin class immediately.
