Twenty-five years ago, on 15 March 2001, an RPG from Germany called Gothic was released and quickly became one of the most iconic franchises in the genre. To celebrate this anniversary, publisher THQ Nordic has announced that the classic RPG will be released on iOS mobile devices later this year. Further details, including the release date and pricing, will be announced soon.

To mark the anniversary, the Austrian publisher is also launching a new merchandise line, including a limited-edition Scavenger figurine (only 500 pieces available), an imitation leather map of the Valley of Mines from the Gothic 1 remake, and the Gothic Classic Sketchbook. This features the original sketches and artwork compiled by concept artist Ralf Marczinczik across a total of 176 pages.

The original Gothic series was developed by Piranha Bytes, also known for the Risen and Elex series. However, the development studio no longer exists. The Gothic 1 remake is set to be released on 5 June 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and the publisher describes it as "rebuilt from the ground up" set in "same unforgettable world".

The prisoners rebel, transforming the mine into a lawless territory ruled by the Colony’s most brutal inmates. Now, the King must negotiate with these new rulers, as tensions rise among the mine's factions. Amidst the chaos, the arrival of an unknown prisoner will change everything …"
