Titan Quest II is one of the biggest game projects currently in development in Germany. The sequel to the 2006 action role-playing game developed by Iron Lore Entertainment and published by THQ is being developed by Grimlore Games in Munich and published by THQ Nordic. As an in-house development studio for the Austrian publisher, Grimlore Games had previously worked on SpellForce 3 and its standalone expansions. However, unlike Black Forest Games, Pieces Interactive and Digital Arrow, who had previously developed expansions and console ports, it has no direct connection to Titan Quest. Over 50 developers in Munich are currently working on the game, which received €2.6 million in funding from the German Federal Games Funding Programme.

Originally announced in August 2023, Titan Quest II has been postponed several times to avoid competing with other ARPG releases. It was finally released on 1 August 2025 via Early Access. THQ Nordic opted for a shadow drop of the game during its own annual showcase event, despite heavily teasing in the days leading up to it that something might be coming. They launched the game at the highly competitive price of €29.99, reduced by 20%. The full 1.0 release is expected to cost €49.99. This price will increase during Early Access and with further updates. This strategy proved successful: over 300,000 copies of the game were sold in less than 72 hours.

Titan Quest II draws heavily on its predecessor and the original Diablo, and feels significantly slower and more tactical than Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2. Character progression is achieved through masteries and their combinations. Levels and encounters are handcrafted and each boss fight is unique. The ancient, mythical game world also feels brighter and more inviting.

Since its Early Access launch, the game has been expanded with two major content updates: The Northern Beaches (Chapter 2) and the Arkadian Plains (Chapter 3). Forge has been added to the existing masteries of Earth, Storm, Warfare and Rogue, while Summons represent the first step towards enabling a full Summoner playstyle. Relics and Charms are new socketable items that can be embedded into weapons, armour, rings and amulets. A character creator has been added, along with explanatory tooltips featuring nested tooltips that clarify how abilities and stats work. The multiplayer mode has also been out of beta since December 2025, and the German localisation is also available. Localisation into French and Chinese is currently in progress.

Up next are the Wild Lands (Chapter 4) and the Spirit Mastery (a summon-focused mastery), as well as greater enemy variety, better balancing and more rewarding loot. Unlike Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2, Grimlore Games and THQ Nordic have decided not to include seasons, microtransactions or live-service content in their game.
