Summer Sale Shakes up the Steam Charts, While Giants Adds an Exclamation Mark
The ongoing Steam Summer Sale has shaken up the charts, but without threatening the dominance of Elden Ring. The biggest surprises, on the other hand, are the high rankings of Farming Simulator 25 and Forza Horizon 4.
The Steam Summer Sale has shaken up the Steam charts as usual, but there has been little change to the top positions held by Elden Ring, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, Steam Deck and Counter-Strike 2. The big winners from the discount promotions are Baldur's Gate 3, Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition, Cyberpunk 2077 and the War Thunder DLCs. By the way: On 30 June, Steam set a new user record with 36,928,521 concurrently active users on the platform.
Despite the start of the summer sales with thousands of offers, Giants Software has made it into the top 10 with pre-order sales of Farming Simulator 25 in Germany and Austria. In Switzerland, the game is in 11th place. However, Farming Simulator 25 did not make it into the global top 20. Otherwise, no GSA games are represented in the top lists.
The re-entry of Forza Horizon 4 in the global Top 10 is the result of a major discount promotion, as Microsoft will stop selling the racing game on 15 December 2024 due to expiring licences. However, the game will still be playable after that date. This announcement, along with the steep discount, resulted in a new CCU record for the title of 75,689. Forza Horizon 4 was released for PC and Xbox consoles in October 2018, but did not appear on Steam until March 2021.
In any case, the popularity (based on CCU peaks) of clicker games such as Banana and similar titles has declined compared to the previous week. It will be interesting to see how well Nexon's free-to-play title The First Descendant does next week; the third-person looter shooter currently has over 170,000 concurrent players.
Steam charts by revenue cover the period from 25 June to 2 July (10am).
