With over 50 million downloads, HoYoverse's Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) has had an impressive launch. The urban fantasy ARPG is particularly popular in Asia.

Following the success of Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, HoYoverse, formerly miHoYo Games, launched its action RPG ZZZ - Zenless Zone Zero last week on Android, iOS, PlayStation 5 and PC (via its own launcher and the Epic Games Store).

Zenless Zone Zero had an impressive launch, with over 50 million downloads in its first 72 hours. However, according to data from AppMagic, seen by Pocketgamer, the launch was not as lucrative as that of Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. According to the data, ZZZ made just under $24.6 million on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in its first five days, more than Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail combined in the last week, but less than their respective launches. However, this only includes mobile platforms, not PC and PS5.

According to AppMagic, around 30 per cent of downloads on Android and iOS come from China and around 49 per cent of revenue comes from China, which is not particularly surprising as HoYoverse is a Chinese company. 25 per cent of revenues come from Japan, eight per cent from the US and less than one per cent from Germany and Switzerland. In terms of downloads, Germany, Austria and Switzerland each account for less than one percent. The Global Cumulative Revenue per Download (RpD) is $2.71 ($1.47 in "Tier-1 West" and "Tier-1 East"), this value tends to increase with the lifetime of the game and is around $20 globally for Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.

Zenless Zone Zero is an urban fantasy ARPG. In the near future, a mysterious natural disaster known as the "Hollows" has occurred.  "A new kind of city has emerged in this disaster-ridden world — New Eridu. (...) As a professional Proxy, you play a crucial role in linking the city and the Hollows. (...) Build a squad of up to three and begin your assault with Basic and Special Attacks", the publisher said. The game is Free-to-play and, like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, uses a gacha (Signal Search) system to monetize.
