Plans to establish esports associations at the state level are progressing in several federal states. According to the ESBD, an association is expected to be founded in Lower Saxony in May, with similar initiatives also taking shape in Saxony and Hamburg.

The creation of regional associations at the federal state level is part of the ESBD’s long-term strategy. As a national association, the ESBD aims to be actively involved as a founding member in each case to maximise impact. However, success also depends on engagement from the local esports communities — and they appear increasingly willing to participate.

According to the association’s latest newsletter, the Lower Saxony association is set to become the fourth state-level esports organisation in Germany, following Schleswig-Holstein, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Bavaria.

Plans in other states are also advancing. In Hamburg, a roundtable discussion regarding the potential founding of an association is scheduled to take place on the ESBD’s Discord server in May. Saxony, meanwhile, is one step further along: during the Caggtus event, a letter of intent was signed affirming the commitment to establish an association. However, no concrete timeline has yet been set for its formation.
