Since its release on 22 March 2024, Dragon's Dogma 2 has sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide. The huge success of the fantasy action RPG may have even surprised Capcom, as the first instalment was released twelve years ago.

Capcom has announced that Dragon's Dogma 2 has sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide. The game, which was released twelve years after its predecessor, was released on 22 March 2024. It reached a CCU peak of 228,585 on Steam alone, putting it ahead of Resident Evil 4 (168,191), but just behind Monster Hunter Rise (231,360) and Monster Hunter: World (334,684), despite criticism of the DLCs, as well as some technical issues. Since the release of the first game in 2012, the series has cumulatively sold more than 10 million units.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is an action-RPG set in a vast open world with a high degree of freedom. Capcom: "The game allows players to enjoy an intricately crafted, all-too-real fantasy setting while providing a taste of adventuring in a group of up to four people all while playing solo thanks to AI-controlled pawn characters that act as travelling companions. Capcom carried out various global-facing promotional activities with the aim of attracting not only long-time fans of the series but newcomers as well, including the launch of a free application that let users create their player avatars prior to the game's release, as well as in-game pawns made in collaboration with celebrities in various countries and Japanese national athletes."

March has proven to be a strong release month for Capcom, with last year's Resident Evil 4 remake selling 3.75 million copies across all platforms by 31 March 2023. Monster Hunter Rise also celebrated its first release on Switch in March 2021. The game sold over four million copies in its first weekend of release.
