BioWare hat einen Publishingvertrag mit Interplay Entertainment aufgekündigt. Der Entwickler zieht damit erste Konsequenten aus dem Rechtsstreit um Drittlizenzierung und Royalties.

Der kanadische Softwareentwickler BioWare ("Baldur's Gate") hat aus dem Rechtsstreit mit Interplay Entertainment erste Konsequenzen gezogen. Wie jetzt bekannt wurde, hat BioWare den Kaliforniern den Publishingvertrag für das Rollenspiel "Neverwinter Nights" aufgekündigt. Trotz der Trennung von Interplay streben die BioWare-Gründer und CEOs Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk noch eine Titelveröffentlichung im Frühjahr 2002 an. BioWare ist Ende September gegen Interplay vor Gericht gezogen. Die Klageschrift fußt auf zwei Vorwürfen: Zum einen wirft BioWare dem kalifornischem Publisher Vertragsbruch vor: Interplay habe ohne vorherige Absprache Titel der Kanadier an Dritte weiterlizenziert und damit eine Vertragsklausel gebrochen. Zum zweiten fordert BioWare in Gemeinschaftsklage mit dem Entwickler Parallex ("Descent") noch ausstehende Royalties ein. In gleicher Sache haben die beiden Entwickler auch Klage gegen Virgin Interactive sowie Titus Interactive eingereicht.
