The game subsidiary devcom GmbH, founded in 2018, has long been organising more events than just the developer conference at gamescom. Consequently, it has now been renamed game events GmbH.

Since 2017 and the previous withdrawal of the Game Developer Conference Europe in the run-up to gamescom, devcom has brought international game developers together for a conference in Cologne on the days leading up to gamescom. In November 2018, the German games industry association game took over the organisation of this conference itself and founded the subsidiary devcom GmbH in Cologne, which has since been headed by Stephan Reichart as Managing Director.

A lot has happened since then, partly due to the coronavirus pandemic. devcom GmbH has long been involved in numerous other events as a service provider and supports, for example, the German Developer Award, which was once founded by Stephan Rechart and is now managed by games.nrw. The German Computer Game Award, which was presented a few weeks ago, was organised entirely by Reichart and his team.

As can be seen in the register of companies (Handelsregister) the company was officially renamed back in February, presumably to reflect these numerous additional activities. Instead of devcom GmbH, it now called game events GmbH. There are no other changes, which probably is why game did not communicate the change in any major way.

"The renaming of devcom GmbH to game events GmbH reflects the significantly expanded range of tasks. Of course, the organisation of the devcom developer conference remains one of the central tasks of Stephan Reichart's team. However, other projects have been added, such as event management for the German Computer Game Award ceremony," Felix Falk, Managing Director of game, told GamesMarkt.
