Creative Europe Media has released a call for submissions in the funding area Creative Innovation Lab.

The initiative aims to enable stakeholders from various cultural and creative industries to develop and test innovative digital solutions with potentially positive long-term effects on multiple cultural and creative industries. The aim is to facilitate the development of innovative solutions (e.g., tools, models, and methods) that are applicable to the audiovisual sector and at least one of the following three cultural and creative industries: music, books, and museums.

While this does not include games per se, the overlaps are there and developers making such tools that incorporate games as well as one of the other areas will have a chance to submit. Especially since the project does not necessarily have to be directly tailored to the audiovisual sector, but can also serve as a model if it can be easily transferred to the audiovisual industry.

Projects must cover at least one of the following topics:

  • Virtual worlds as an environment for promoting European content and reaching new audiences
  • Innovative digital solutions for production, financing, distribution, or promotion using the latest technologies
  • Improving the environmental sustainability of the audiovisual sector and the cultural and creative industries

Applications can be submitted by individual independent European companies from the cultural and creative sectors (including the audiovisual industry) or by a consortium of at least two partners from Creative Europe member countries. Start-ups and tech companies, cultural organizations, creative industries, business incubators, and accelerators are welcome, as are universities, provided they can contribute not only to the research but also to the concrete implementation of the project.

The projects will be funded for a period of 24 months. Funding is budget-based, with no limit, up to a maximum of 80% of eligible costs. Submissions are accepted until 23 April 2026.
