D-topia is a slow-paced narrative puzzle adventure game with science fiction elements. Players take on the role of a maintenance worker ("Facilitator", as the game calls them) in a seemingly perfect residential complex of the "Utopia Project". Here, an AI controls and monitors all aspects of life to maximise human happiness. Players must resolve issues within the residential community by solving (mostly small and stand-alone) logic puzzles to fix mechanical problems and ensure the complex runs smoothly. In doing so, they move between the pristine public reality of Utopia and its hidden technical 'back end', i.e. the background infrastructure.

And it's up to the players to resolve the issues faced by the community’s residents. In the process, they get to know the residents' multifaceted personalities and personal problems. Their moral decisions shape people’s fates and lead to different endings. The gameplay has a strong rhythm: waking up, completing brief routine tasks, working, talking to residents and making decisions along the way. Beneath the pastel-coloured anime aesthetic lies a profound narrative that prompts philosophical contemplation on surveillance, freedom, and the darker aspects of such a society. What does it mean to find meaning in a world of artificial happiness? These are significant subjects, particularly in today's world, though certain facets might be worthy of more extensive elaboration and impact.

"D-topia explores a future that may not be as far away as it seems, with many of its settings and ideas inspired by possibilities that could one day become reality. In this world known as 'Paradise', we invite you to reflect on what happiness truly means, what we struggle with, what we seek, and what it means to keep thinking and taking action for ourselves and for others. We hope you'll enjoy the journey while discovering your own answers along the way." - Hiroco Shiino of Marumittu Games

D-topia was developed by Marumittu Games, an independent game development studio based in Kyoto, Japan. Founded by married couple Akira Mitsuhashi and Hiroko Shiino in 2017, the company maintains a team of fewer than 20 people. D-topia is their third game release after Shot! Shot! SPY and Captain StarONE. The game is published by Annapurna Interactive, an independent multi-platform media company and content studio founded in 2016. Its portfolio includes Stray, Outer Wilds, Neon White, What Remains of Edith Finch, Mixtape, People of Note and the upcoming titles Silent Hill: Townfall, The Lost Wild, and We Kill Monsters, among others. The company is a division of Annapurna Pictures.

D-topia was released on 14 July 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch 1|2.
