The expansion of the existing identity into a fully English one, effective from 28 April 2026, is a logical consequence of our platform’s business development: “Since switching to English, the proportion of users outside the German-speaking region has risen steadily,” says Stephan Steininger, Editor-in-chief and responsible for operations. More than half of gamesmarket.global’s online users now come from countries other than Germany, Switzerland and Austria (GSA). And best of all: the figures from the GSA region have also continued to rise.

The team behind GamesMarkt is noticing the growing international popularity on many levels: “Enquiries from international companies and event organisers wishing to enter into media partnerships with GamesMarket are rising in line with the internationalisation of our target audience,” explains Pascal Wagner, Senior Editor and Chief Relationship Officer.

And Marcel Kleffmann, Senior Editor and Chief Content Officer, adds: “Our market analyses, C-level interviews and event coverage have long since met the information needs of the international industry, even beyond our traditional market in GSA.”

The name change is accompanied by the further development of the service, which responds to the challenges posed by AI in online journalism. To ensure a qualified audience and prevent the superficial and often inaccurate scraping and aggregation into AI models, free registration will be required to access GamesMarket content in future. This will grant access not only to all free articles, but also to services such as the free Daily Update newsletter and special features like the recently published special issue Working in Games. “Over the coming weeks and months, we will gradually expand the content available on both the free and paid tiers,” promises the editorial team.

The print magazine, whose readership remains primarily based in German-speaking countries, will continue to be published under the name ‘GamesMarkt’, unlike the online service. The URL gamesmarkt.de will keep working indefinitely and will redirect to the main URL.

The B2B news outlet GamesMarket/GamesMarkt was acquired in July 2025 by Stephan Steininger, Pascal Wagner and Marcel Kleffmann as part of a management buy-out from the insolvency proceedings of BG Germany. Through their company Steininger, Wagner, Kleffmann GbR, the three owners not only manage all media related to the GamesMarkt/GamesMarket brand, but are also media partners and publishers of the official B2B trade fair magazine gamescom Daily, and operate under the name True GEMS as a service provider for media productions in the gaming sector.
