Red Hook, an independent development studio based in Vancouver, is best known for Darkest Dungeon and Darkest Dungeon II, which grew from crowdfunding beginnings into a gothic horror franchise. Both games, which were released in 2016 and 2023 respectively, have sold a combined total of over seven million copies. Darkest Dungeon II is a rogue-lite turn-based tactical RPG with a run-based road-trip structure and a metagame hub ("The Altar of Hope") with extensive persistent upgrades. "Form a party, equip your stagecoach, and set off across the decaying landscape on a last gasp quest to avert an apocalypse caused by your own failures. The greatest dangers you face, however, may come from within the group," the developers said.
