The Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM) has approved a total of 335,000 euros for the Games & XR segment in the second funding session of the year. 250,000 of this will go to the games from Inclusive Gaming, PandaBee Studios and Bippinbits.

In the second funding session of the year, the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (Central German Media Funding) approved a total of 5.1 million euros for 38 projects. As a film funding organisation for the federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, the majority of the funding naturally goes towards films, series and other projects in the film industry, such as the Leipzig Film Art Fair.

However, as the association Games & XR Mitteldeutschland has worked out, the funding package also includes a total of five interactive audiovisual projects, three games and two XR projects to be precise.

In the games category, Bippinbits (Dome Keeper) from Radeberg and Pandabee Studios from Leipzig will each receive 100,000 euros for their projects Karawan and Endzeit, both strategy games. A further 50,000 euros will go to Zoo-Chaos by Inclusive Gaming from Leipzig, a puzzle adventure game.

A further 25,000 euros will go to Mitmalfilm from Leipzig for the project of the same name, a new, interactive format for animated short films. And 60,000 euros from the 150,000 euro ‘Reynard Films package’ from Reynard Films in Leipzig will go towards the VR experience LaLaLabyrith.

Unlike most other federal states, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia have pooled their media funding in a joint organisation. This organisation has also been funding games for several years, although the budget available for games is significantly lower than in Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia or Bavaria, for example.
