Epic Games Modifies Its Funding Programme

Starting 12 February, developers worldwide can once again apply for an Epic Games MegaGrant, provided they are developing—or planning to develop—their game using Unreal Engine. However, Epic Games has announced a fundamental change to its funding programme for 2025.
Instead of maintaining an open application system throughout the year, Epic Games is introducing a structured two-phase application process.

At this time, no further changes to the programme are planned. Developers worldwide can still apply for Epic MegaGrants, with approved studios typically receiving between $5,000 and $75,000. In exceptional cases, funding can reach up to $150,000.
To qualify, Epic Games must be legally permitted to issue the grant, meaning there must be no legal restrictions in the applicant’s country. Additionally, the project must either be developed using Unreal Engine or involve migrating an existing project from another engine to Unreal.
Epic Games launched the Epic MegaGrant programme in 2019. By the end of 2023, it had reportedly supported over 2,100 projects in over 100 countries. At the end of 2022, the figure was 1,800 projects. In Germany, a number of studios have already benefited from Epic Games' support, including Suggerfly, Thoughtfish, Four Exo Entertainment and Pixel Maniacs.
