Two Esports Research Conferences Announced for October

October in Europe will be dominated by esports and gaming research: while the Esports Research Network will hold this year's interdisciplinary conference in London at the end of October, researchers will gather in Berlin in mid-October for the second Gaming & Esports Summit, which will focus more on business and economics in gaming and esports research.
While the timing may not be ideal, the two research conferences should complement each other rather than compete with each other. In any case, October could become an important month for gaming and esports research in Europe, with two major conferences taking place at the same time.
First up is the Gaming & Esports Summit in Berlin. It will take place on the 10th and 11th of October at the ESCP Business School in Berlin. This will be the second edition of the research event, which will focus on business and economic issues. The first edition was held in 2020.
The call for papers for this year's Gaming & Esports Summit is open until the end of June. A programme committee of experienced academics will be responsible for fine-tuning the organisation and content. They include Prof Dr Georg Stadtmann from the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder, who came up with the idea for the summit, and 'host' Prof Dr Gonçalo Pina from the ESCP Business School Berlin. Also on the programme committee are Prof. Dr. Dennis Coates (University of Maryland), Prof. Dr. Sonja Klose (Berlin School of Economics and Law), Prof. Dr. Jens Junge (Institut für Ludologie & SRH Hochschule Berlin), Dr. Timo Schöber (European University Viadrina & lvlup!HR), Dr. Peter Kreutter (WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management) and Manouchehr Shamsrizi (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin).
Approximately three weeks after the Gaming & Esports Summit, the Esports Research Network will hold its annual conference, which this year will take place in the British capital due to the League of Legends finals being held in London. The exact location has yet to be announced, but the date has been confirmed. The Esports Research Network Conference (ERNC) 2024 will take place from 30 October to 1 November.
The ERNC takes a broad and interdisciplinary approach, meaning that business issues in esports are just one of many topics. Others include research into the psychological and sociological aspects of e-sports, communication in e-sports, legal and ethical considerations, as well as issues related to diversity, equality, inclusion, sustainability, performance and player health. Educational innovation through e-sports or the opportunities and challenges of globalisation and intercultural exchange can also be topics for the 2024 ERNC.
Topics can still be submitted for the ERNC 2024. The deadline for submissions is 20 May. The decision on which topics will make it to the conference will be made on 1 July. Early Bird ticket sales will begin on 15 August.
