Esports professionals competed against amateur gamers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the "Red Bull For The Win!" tournament. Participants from Aachen and Burgenland secured the first two places.

Red Bull For The Win, the esports tournament that pits gamers against esports pros, took place this weekend in front of thousands of online viewers. The final at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg was won by 20-year-old amateur gamer Jeremy Colling (Jexoo) from Aachen. Second place went to 19-year-old Julian Kappel (JulianVXZ) from Burgenland, Austria. Both amateurs beat off competition from five esport professionals and twenty amateurs to take home the grand prize of 1,800 Euros and 900 Euros respectively.  Third place (600 Euros) went to three-time European Fortnite champion CGN JannisZ. The fourth and fifth places (400 Euros and 200 Euros respectively) were won by professional esports players Fokus Asa and Vic0 from Vienna.

"I've been playing Fortnite for many years, but only recently have I become interested in e-sports tournaments and professional esports. Today's success at Red Bull for The Win really encourages me to continue on this path," said Jeremy Colling (Jexoo). "It was a new experience for me to sit in front of professional players and compete against them, who you usually only know from the internet and have been following for a long time. The level of play is definitely different and much more challenging," said runner-up Julian Kappel (JulianVXZ).

Twenty amateur players from German-speaking countries took part in the final, including eleven from Austria, seven from Germany and two from Switzerland. They beat out more than 2,000 players from the two qualifying tournaments in Vienna and Linz to go up against five esports pros in the Fortnite final. The tournament was free to enter. Esport pros Vadeal, Vic0, FOKUS Asa, Magican and CGN JannisZ took part.

In response to questions, the organisers left open the question of whether the tournament format will return next year.
