The Schleswig-Holstein esports state championships are to be held again in late autumn 2024. The organisers have now announced that they will be sponsored by Stadtwerke Flensburg, which has been involved in esports for some time, including in the area of human resources.

Germany's northernmost federal state is one of the pioneers of esports sponsorship in Germany. An important part of this is the esports state championships, which are also planned for 2024. A date has not yet been set, but the event will take place in late autumn that year at the Holstenhallen in Neumünster. The state championships are organised by the local association E-Sport Verband Schleswig-Holstein (EVSH). The association has now announced its first major sponsor: Stadtwerke Flensburg, the public utility company of Flensburg.

The cooperation with Stadtwerke Flensburg is a logical step for us. The company's multifaceted commitment shows that it not only understands e-sports, but also supports it significantly. The EVSH and Stadtwerke Flensburg share values that are inherent to e-sports: tolerance, equality for all people, the understanding of the 'world as a village' and intercultural understanding," says Phillip Ebben, 1st Chairman of the EVSH. In fact, Stadtwerke Flensburg has been focusing on e-sports for some time, in part to attract new employees.

Dirk Thole, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Flensburg, explains: We use e-sports because it fits well with our image as a modern, regional energy and telecommunications provider. We also want to explore new and interesting avenues in our human resources work in order to attract young people and remain an attractive employer. This includes our involvement in e-sports, which supports us in our HR work, be it in the selection of apprentices, in company sports or in our positioning as an employer in general.

Although Schleswig-Holstein is significantly behind other federal states in the field of games production, the northernmost federal state in Germany was the first to initiate official esports funding. This has not only led to the establishment of EVSH, but also to the establishment of the State Centre for E-Sports and Digitisation in Kiel (LEZ SH) and four regional e-sports centres in Flensburg, Heide, Husum and Mölln.
