Games will once again play a role at this year's Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, taking place from 6 to 11 May. The dedicated GameZone, which features the nominees for the Animated Games Award Germany among other highlights, will be located for the first time in the Säulensaal of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.

Although the Internationales Trickfilmfestival Stuttgart (ITFS; Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film) is primarily focused on the linear medium of film, it remains an interesting event for game studios as well. This is largely due to the presentation of the Animated Games Award Germany, whose winners often go on to perform well at the German Computer Games Awards.

This year, the festival’s GameZone will move to a new setting: the columned hall of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. Alongside the nominated games, three regional universities will also be showcasing their projects at the venue.

The broader Stuttgart Animated Week offers even more for game developers. Running in parallel is FMX, one of the leading conferences for animation, VFX, interactive, and immersive media. Additionally, many events from the animated film world may be of interest to game creators, as game engines have long become standard tools in animated film production.
