The Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur (Digital Game Culture Foundation) is organising a conference together with Games Ground on the topic of AI, which will not only focus on the use of AI in game development, but also on AI utopias and dystopias in games. The conference is supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.

The official title of the conference is ‘AI Utopia and Dystopia: How Artificial Intelligence and Games Are Shaping Futures’. In addition to lectures and panels, there are also plans for screenings to match the festival character of Games Ground. Unlike Games Ground, the conference will be held entirely in English.

The event will take place on 14 November on the Ex-Machina Stage at the Games Ground Festival. The festival itself runs from 14 to 16 November. Visitors to the festival can attend the conference. The foundation is also offering free solo tickets. The conference is sponsored by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.

"Artificial intelligence now touches almost every aspect of our lives, and of course this also applies to the world of gaming. However, the blurring of fact and fiction sometimes leads to exaggerated hopes and fears," says Nandita Wegehaupt, Managing Director of Stiftung Digitale Spielkultur. "At our conference, we therefore want to discuss both the role of AI in game development and the image of AI in pop-cultural media. As a community event, the Games Ground festival offers us the perfect setting for this."

"As a sponsor of computer games, the MBB is close to the topics and challenges of this growth and future industry. Whether it's game graphics, developing codes, characters or dialogues – AI is increasingly being used as a tool in the production of games," adds Helge Jürgens, managing director of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB).

And Fernanda Pagani, co-founder and CEO of Games Ground, adds: "Collaborating with foundations like Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur, which connects the cultural, social, political and educational dimensions of gaming, is essential to our mission at Games Ground. Integrating their community-driven perspectives, research and shared knowledge aligns with our commitment to fostering meaningful conversations on the future of gaming. With the full integration of their annual conference in our B2B program this year as a stage fully dedicated to AI topics in games, we are excited to join forces now and in the future to create spaces where innovation, inclusivity, and collaboration can thrive."
