The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW (Film and Media Foundation North Rhine-Westphalia) has awarded 340,000 euros in the first round of funding for serious games and gamification projects. These categories of games were funded separately for the first time.

With the adoption of the 2023 state budget for North Rhine-Westphalia, the state government granted the Film and Media Foundation North Rhine-Westphalia (Film- und Medienstiftung NRW) an additional 500,000 euros for the pilot programme to promote serious games. In the first round of funding for this category of games - and also for gamification projects - the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW awarded a total of 340,000 euros to ten games and applications for concept and prototype development. Five prototypes and five concepts received funding. Incidentally, eight of the ten funded companies are based in Cologne.

The jury, chaired by Filmstiftung NRW managing director Petra Müller, consists of Stefanie Waschk (managing partner of Fusion Campus) and David von Galen (head of the media industry department at the NRW state chancellery).

Prototypes - "Fiete EcoLifeSim" by Ahoiii Entertainment from Cologne receives 62,000 euros. - "Blueberry" by Mellow Games from Cologne receives 60,000 euros. - "Squirrel&Bear: Playground" by the Good Evil from Cologne receives 55,000 euros. - "Vitapolis: Carnival Chess" by VITA Learning from Mönchengladbach receives 40,000 euros. - "Willkommen in Jangala" by Jangala, Mülheim an der Ruhr receives 24,500 euros.

Concepts - “A Homeless Journey" by headtrip immersive media from Cologne receives 20,000 euros. - "CIET" by Spoonful Games from Cologne receives 20,000 euros. - "Project Tortuga" by Critical Rabbit from Cologne receives 20,000 euros. - "Bigskills Neotlithic" by H&S Hard- & Software Technologie from Dortmund receives 18,500 euros. - "Starlight" by Curious Electric from Cologne receives 20,000 euros.
