Game City Wien Breaks Attendance Record with 85,000 Visitors
The 15th Game City in the heart of Vienna's council hall was also the biggest: more than 130 exhibitors, more than 85,000 visitors, a cosplay parade of 200 cosplayers made the three-day event this weekend a success. The organisers of WienXtra and Mice & Men are delighted.
More visitors than ever before played at Austria’s biggest gaming festival: From 11 to 13 October 2024, more than 85,000 visitors came to the 15th Game City at Vienna City Hall. Over 130 exhibitors filled the approximately 15,000 square metres of space under chandeliers and baroque decorations.
Deputy Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr was particularly pleased with the strong response and the success of the event: “It's impressive to see how Game City brings people together every year - from live streaming on Twitch, board games in the family and children's zone to shared experiences on the stage in the Arkadenhof. Particularly noteworthy are the three new health zones, which focus on exercise, nutrition and mental well-being. Our aim is not to restrict young people, but to empower them to use video games responsibly. They learn for life through play, and we accompany them on this journey.”
WienXtra Managing Director Vucko Schüchner therefore emphasises the importance of Game City as a community experience: “Game City is a place where we can come together, exchange ideas, learn from each other and experience the joy of gaming together. At a time when the focus is often on what divides us, it is all the more important to create moments of togetherness. We attach great importance to promoting this joy of responsible play. The fact that the City of Vienna is making this unique event at City Hall possible - with free admission - shows just how special Game City is. An unforgettable weekend full of shared experiences and lasting memories.”
This year's Game City was once again organised by WienXtra together with the event agency Mice & Men. Tarek Sharif, Managing Director of Mice & Men, was delighted: “Seeing so many happy faces and experiencing the fun of gaming was overwhelming. We managed to bring 130 exhibitors to Game City, who presented an impressive variety of new games, hardware, eSports, educational programmes and much more. We are proud that our invitation was accepted by so many and that Game City continues to grow. Thanks to our main partnership with MediaMarkt, I am optimistic about 2025 and look forward to even more joint successes!”
The traditional cosplay parade on Saturday has also been called a success by the organisers. Over 200 costumed people formed the parade through Vienna’s inner city.
GamesMarkt was on site at Game City Wien and has collected impressions from the event (GamesMarkt+ article link). Part of the event was also the recurring game studies conference Future and Reality of Gaming, of which we also collected impressions (GamesMarkt+ article link) as well as published a commentary on its success (GamesMarkt+ article link).
