Just as the seasonal business is getting underway, the industry is outdoing itself with its Christmas tips and offers. And the German games association is also getting involved: on the day before Black Friday, game is publishing a YouGov survey it commissioned. It states that 37 percent of people over the age of 16, i.e. a total of 26 million Germans, would be happy to receive a gaming gift for Christmas. Such gifts are particularly popular among 35- to 46-year-olds: 57 percent, more than in any other age group, would be happy to receive such gifts.
From a business perspective, the survey is interesting in terms of how many people would be happy to receive which type of gaming gift. Unsurprisingly, games themselves are very popular among most respondents, with 11 million. However, it is surprising that gift cards (8 million) and virtual reality glasses (7 million) are more popular than accessories (6 million) or gaming merchandise (4 million), for example.
However, even the YouGov survey cannot answer the most exciting question, namely how many people will actually buy gaming products in the end and how many of those interested in games will simply treat themselves to a gaming product if necessary. Only the sales figures at the end of the year will reveal the answer.
